Every Piece of Furniture Has A Story…

Keeping in the Family
After some work we did for the client at her full house reno in Canmore, she asked if we were willing to bring some life to this set of side tables that she got 60 years ago that has been passed down in the family since her childhood.
She felt that it would be wrong to give them away or sell them for nothing.
After some assessment and research, of the original finishing, we did a full refinishing and some repair on the whole set, to ensure that they will keep serving the family for many years to come.
The Table Story
The client saw the table at a market in BC Canada. The table was made from reclaimed wood that did not fit the style of her house in Calgary.
She came to us hoping we could create for her the table with the same look, but she added another twist, requiring the ability to open two leaves and extend the table to 9’ long.
For the type of wood, we had to go on a hunt until she found what fits her. The comparison was to the cow in the prairie, some brown, white, and black. In the end, she chose the Hickory wood for her table.
Coming to Light
When the client asked me to help him and build a cabinet for the guitars as he would like to see and be able to use them in an easy way.
The explanation was that all the guitars were always in their cases (hiding in the closet) and usually in the basement, thus by the time the feeling to play arises, the trip to the basement and searching for the right guitar has killed the buzz…
So the idea was to build a display cabinet that could store as much as we can but still be beautiful and offer protection for the guitars.
We started to see how many guitars and what size and style they were, then found ways to:
- keep the UV out by using special glass
- keeping humidity above 42 at all times in the cabinet.
- sealing the doors with a gasket.
- installing aromatic Cedar that would help to keep the humidity and push away bugs.

The Ageless Heirloom
Around the year 1885, a true craftsman built this masterpiece in Scotland, not knowing that it would still be used in 2019 by the same family.
The client came over with very little hope that we would be willing and able to fix it for her after she had no success with a few companies in town as they told her it was too old and too risky.
We got to fix two of the legs that were broken, the drawers that did not work or lock, and some of the inlay.
After a few weeks, the client was able to sit down at it to write a letter to the family in Scotland once again.
Expanding Entertainment Unit
The client had similar furniture that was starting to wear down, so she asked if we could create a new one with the same concept from solid wood.
For our new one, we worked with Gray Elm, a strong Canadian wood (mostly east Canada).
The unit can expand and condense to the desired size and space but always will be together.
